Junior A Semi Final

To steal a term from Sky TV it was certainly a Super Sunday for the club with our Junior A and U17 lads contesting critical matches on Sunday gone.

First up on Sunday Morning was the Junior A lads in a crucial semi-final against St Mary’s with a place in the county final up for grabs. The lads were in fine form against a seasoned St Mary’s team, it was a close match with Ballinamore just shading it by a couple of points at the end to leave the final score Ballinamore 0:13 and St Mary’s 0:11

Under 17 Championship Final

It was certainly another exiting match in Pairc Sean on Sunday afternoon with the U17 lads taking on Fenagh in the inaugural U17 final. There was a great crowd in attendance from both clubs cheering on the teams and it certainly made for a great atmosphere and a very entertaining game. Fenagh started well and got a crucial goal in the first 5 mins, the Ballinamore lads reacted very well to the early set back and were back on level terms with Sean Christy scoring a fine goal, the goal spurned Ballinamore on and they quickly took the lead knocking over 4 points before Tom Prior scored another well worked goal to leave Ballinamore on 2:05 to Fenagh’s 1:03. Both teams scored a further couple of points apiece to leave Ballinamore leading at half time by 2:07 to 1:05. Fenagh started the second half in blistering fashion scoring a goal and 5 points to Ballinamore’s 1 point and levelling the score. Ballinamore again reacted extremely well with Cathal McHugh scoring a great goal before Sean Christy added a quick fourth. Ballinamore continued to press forward with Sean Christy grabbing his third goal and Daire Gleeson adding a sixth to leave Ballinamore well in control at the end and deserved County Champions, with a final score of 6:11 to 2:11.

Special well done must go to Tom Prior who was named man of the match and to all the players who were excellent on the day and throughout the campaign. We must not forget to thank the management team of Diarmaid Keegan, Kevin McGovern and Adrian Smith who helped lead these fine men to a great victory and of course all the fans who turned out at the game and at the victory parade.  Minor Ladies reach the Championship Final!

Well done to our minor team who had a 3-11 to 1-8 win over Fenagh/Kiltubrid on Friday night, cementing their spot in the Championship final. It was a hard-fought game on heavy ground but thankfully the girls got the result their play deserved. There were a number of standout performances, too many to name them all, although in particular Megan McGovern excelled around the middle of the field and Abbi Sweeney defended like a trojan in the half-back line. Next up, a meeting with Glencar/Manorhamilton in the final – date, time and venue to be confirmed on facebook in due course.

Team: Juliette Lockhart, Michaela Harte, Kiera Masterson, Grace Wrynn, Laoise Moran King, Abbi Sweeney, Gracie Reilly, Aoibhin McGoldrick (0-1), Emma McGovern (0-5), Genevieve Canning, Ciara McGoldrick (0-1), Niamh Donohoe, Lily Byrne (1-0), Megan O’Rourke (0-3), Megan McGovern (1-1).
