Connacht Gold Senior Championship

It was a great day for the lads on Sunday with many of them making their senior championship debuts against Allen Gaels. After our absence from Senior football and having been drawn in a very competitive group it was even more important that we got off to a great start, and a great start we got with Brian Leydon and Shane Moran adding a couple of early scores before Wayne from play and a Peter Reynolds free gave us a four point lead. Allen Gaels were next to rally grabbing three unanswered scores of their own. The first half continued to be a tight affair with the lads adding a point before Allen Gaels got two of their own to level the scores, Dean restored the lead with a point to leave it Ballinamore 0:6 to Allen Gaels 0:5 on 28 minutes only to see Allen Gaels grab two late points to go in at half time leading by one.

Despite the set back of going in a point down at half time the lads came out firing for the second half with first Shane McWeeney, followed by Wayne adding points to give Ballinamore the lead, Allen Gaels grabbed a point to equalise before Peter Reynolds, Shane McWeeney , Keelan McHugh and Wayne added four points to leave Ballinamore leading by a score of 0:13 to 0:8. The lads were on fire at this stage and Paddy Connaughton added  a goal, followed by Liam Ferguson grabbing a goal and a point of his own to leave Ballinamore leading by a score of 2:14 to 0:8. Allen Gaels continued to fight and added a goal of their own before Niall McGovern added two points to leave the final score Ballinamore 2:16 Allen Gaels 1:08.

Comhghairdeas ar lá bhúr bpósta

All the excitement in Ballinamore at the weekend was not restricted to the football pitch as Saturday saw Paddy McLoughlin and Claire Fanning tie the knot in an historic amalgamation for two great sporting dynasties’. We would all like to wish them many years of happiness for the future.

Comhghairdeas

It was no wonder that Ryan Gavin was in flying form on the pitch on Sunday for the juniors after the busy week he had with his wife Emma giving birth to their new son and future Ballinamore SOH player Marc. Marc who will hopefully line out with his brothers Shea and Paul in the future follows in the footsteps of not just their Dad Ryan but their illustrious grandfather Spike. Hopefully Marc and the rest of the boys will have just as good a future as their dad and granddad playing for Ballinamore. Congratulations to you all!!

Good luck

Good luck to our u16 boys who are heading to play in the Bryan Cullen invitational tournament this Sunday where they will play teams such as Dr Crokes, Oran, Corofin, Colmcillies, Burren and Clones GAA, it’s a great opportunity for the lads to test themselves and we all wish them the best of luck
