Béal an Átha Móir Seán Ó hEislin

Combhrón

All Ballinamore Seán O’Heslins club members are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Brendan Kiernan in Carrick on Shannon. Brendan was the leading light in the running and development of Seán O’Heslins club in the 1950s and 60s.

He holds the unique position of being the only club man to hold the positions of Cathaoirleach, Rúnaí and Cisteoir of the club at different times. He was Cathaoirleach from 1965-1966, Rúnaí from 1952-1955 and again in 1962. He was Cisteoir in 1961.

He represented the club on the Leitrim County Board for years and was County Board Assistant Secretary from 1961-1962. He was also Minor Board Treasurer in 1962. Brendan and his brother Dessie were largely responsible for running underage football in the club in the 1950s. He was also a key figure in the winning of the 1956 Senior Championship.

Brendan was also involved in many other activities, both in his beloved Ceannabó and in his adopted home in Carrick on Shannon. He took part in plays and comedy productions in Ballinamore and was always a popular figure in any activity that he was involved in. The club would like to express its deepest sympathies to Brendan’s wife Margaret, children and grandchildren, his brother Dessie in Ballinamore, sister Nuala in Cootehall and all that knew him.

Brendan Gormley RIP

Everyone at Ballinamore Seán Ó hEislin’s are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Brendan Gormley, Fohera Ballinamore. Brendan passed away on Monday morning after a long illness.
Brendan was a prominent member of both club and the Leitrim County Boards. Brendan worked tirelessly for the GAA and filled many roles including Club Trustee. At club level he will be best remembered for his promotion of Scór and Scór Na nÓg in the 1980’s when the Club won several all-Ireland titles. Brendan introduced Set dancing to the club and adjudicated at Scór competitions across many counties and was also County Treasurer of Scór Liatroma.
Brendan held the position of Cisteoir of Leitirm County board for seventeen years from 1985 to 2001, the longest term served by anyone in that position, and he also served as the Cisteoir of Connacht Council form 1979 to 1982.
Over the Years Brendan has been a fantastic and hardworking servant to the GAA across Leitrim and Connacht and we are all truly grateful for everything he has done for his Club, County and Province.
Our Heartfelt sympathy is extended to Brendan’s wife Rosario, sons Niall and Aaron, Daughter Sinead and all his extended family and friends at this difficult time. We ask all our supporters and friends to keep Brendan and his family in your prayers at this difficult time.
Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí do.

At dheis Dé go raibh sé.
